Your Privacy

This policy covers the website at piotrfester.com and the private practice of Piotr Fester, Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), in Toronto, Ontario. It is written in plain language on purpose. If anything here is unclear, please ask.

The practice is governed by Ontario's Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), and the professional standards of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).

What this website collects

Nothing. These are static pages. There are no forms, no accounts, no sign-ups, no comment fields, and no search box. There is nowhere on this site to enter information, so none is collected from you here.

This site sets no cookies. It runs no analytics, no advertising tags, no tracking pixels, and no session recording. Your visit is not measured, profiled, or shared.

The one thing stored on your device

If you use the light and dark theme switch, your choice is saved in your browser's local storage under the key “theme”. It holds a single word, either “light” or “dark”. It stays on your device, is readable only by this site, is never transmitted anywhere, and is not used to identify you. Clearing your browsing data removes it.

Services that deliver this site

Loading any web page requires your browser to request files from servers, and those servers see your IP address and browser version as part of sending the files back. For this site that means Cloudflare, which hosts and serves these pages. That is the only company involved. Everything the site needs, including the typefaces and the small animation library behind the page transitions, is served from this site itself rather than fetched from an outside service while you read.

Cloudflare sets no cookies on this site and does not build a profile of you. It keeps short-lived security logs to protect the site from attacks, which is standard for any hosted website.

Booking and intake

Booking does not happen on this website. When you select "Book a Session" you leave this site for Jane, a Canadian practice management platform used for scheduling, intake forms, secure video sessions, clinical records, and payment.

Everything you enter on Jane is held by Jane and by this practice, not by this website. Jane stores Canadian clients' data on servers in Canada. Their handling of that data is set out in their own policy at jane.app/privacy.

If you email or call

Messages you send to book@piotrfester.com or by phone reach me directly. I keep them only as long as I need them to respond and to meet my record-keeping obligations.

Ordinary email, text messages, and voicemail are not secure. Please keep a first message brief. Detailed personal or clinical information is better shared in session or through Jane's secure intake forms.

Your clinical record

Once you become a client, I am the Health Information Custodian for your record under PHIPA. That record includes your intake information, session notes, correspondence, and billing history, and it is held in Jane.

CRPO requires clinical records to be retained for at least ten years after your last interaction with the practice. For a client who was under 18, the ten years runs from their eighteenth birthday. After that period the record is securely destroyed.

What you tell me in session is confidential. I disclose it without your consent only where the law requires me to, which includes a risk of serious harm to you or another person, suspected abuse or neglect of a child, sexual abuse of a client by a regulated health professional, and a court order or subpoena. These limits are explained again at your first session and set out in the consent form you sign before we begin.

Your rights

You may, at any time:

• Ask what personal or health information I hold about you.
• Request a copy of your record.
• Ask me to correct information you believe is wrong or incomplete.
• Withdraw your consent to collection or use, within the limits of my legal and professional obligations.
• Ask how your information is stored and who else has access to it.

This policy applies to this website only. Jane and any other site linked from these pages have their own policies, and I have no control over how they handle your information.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version is posted on this page with a new effective date. Material changes affecting current clients will also be raised with you directly.
